I think the way Petunia treated Harry over the years and her actions on spoiling Dudley was a way of her to guarantee that her son would not feel the way she felt over Lily. Because Lily was glorified by her parents for being a witch, while Petunia was overshadowed. She made Dudley feel superior to Harry as a bitter way to turn tables. She was not right, of course, but she had her reasons. And it makes me utterly sad. They were sisters; Petunia should love Harry after Lily’s death.

when I was in elementary school–5th grade, I believe–I was walking down the hall to get a drink and I saw some 2nd grader running down the hallway super fast.
now, since I was that one kid who always tried to enforce rules even though I had no authority, I said to the kid, “No running in the halls!”
